The Dubrovnik Summer Festival was founded in early 50s of the 20th century, at the time when many theater and music events started across Europe. However, the idea of bringing together the Renaissance and the Baroque atmosphere of the town of Dubrovnik and the living spirit of drama and music evolved from the intellectual way of life of Dubrovnik itself, from its creative tradition that enriched Croatian cultural and scientific history, particularly in the areas of theater and science, giving us many great names and art work, and enabling the continuous following of the contemporary trends in the Western Europe. The thing worth mentioning is that this year's Summer Festival is marking the 500th anniversary of the birth of Marin Drzic, having thus one part of the program dedicated to this remarkable Dubrovnik-born writer.
